Snowsports Industry Initiative
The Far West Skl Foundation has begun to expand its sustaining snowsports support, looking to identify innovative programs in snowsports industry initiatives, such as, climate control and diversity.
The winter outdoor industry is on the front lines of climate, and taking action in climate control. The direct result of a warming planet is a reduced snow supply, delayed resort openings, and shortened season. The Far West Ski Association, sister organization to the Far West Ski Foundation, has endorsed the National Ski Areas Association’s Environmental Charter with its “Sustainable Slopes” initiative.
Diversity in snowsports is another snowsports industry initiative, with a goal of opening the mountains to all – inclusive of gender, race, ethnicity and economic status. In 2023, the Foundation awarded a grant to the Winter4Kids program located in Vernon Township, New Jersey. The W4K program at the National Winter Activity Center was founded out of the National Winter Sports Education Foundation (now Share Winter) initiative. The program’s vision is to be recognized as the leading provider of outdoor winter activities for kids that change and save lives. The center introduces children to activities they would not typically be exposed to, or consider trying, while making it economically feasible.
