Fund Raising Success at FWSA Convention!

J. WATSON, FWSF PRESIDENT FWSF raised through auctions, gifts, and partnerships well over $10000 for the 2015 cycle of grants. This occurred Friday through Sunday June 7, 2015, with the big push coming on Sunday. Alpine scholarships basically made their basic target for this cycle and will certainly go even higher as partnerships roll in by the time scholarships are granted. David Krupp put out a record-breaking array of raffle prizes and his ticket sellers were very vigorous.

Adaptive, through the efforts of Gloria Raminha and gifts of wine from her and Joe Harvis created enough for a basic adaptive grant. The big contributions came from FWRacingAssociation ($1000) and our loyal continuing sponsors Whitefish Mountain Resort and Grouse Mountain Lodge. Packages donated by these sponsors brought in over $3000. Two BAC and one NWSCC clubs came through with annual or special contributions, including BAC itself, Snowchasers, Inskiers, and Skiyente.

Many thanks to Paul Vlasveld for his contribution of one basic scholarship unit. With the exception of the FWRA contribution, the other income was due in large part to the auctioneering skills and powers of persuasion of Harry Davis. The farwestskifoundation.org website should be up and available for online contributions commencing July. Meanwhile, contributions may be sent electronically through December 31 (for tax advantage) to [email protected] or to [email protected].

How the Foundation Fits into the FWSA Convention FW Ski Foundation meets and operates within the much larger in size and scope convention of the Far West Ski Association. FWSA usually schedules the FWSF annual meeting Friday afternoon. Fund raising occurs Friday evening along with all types of displays, concurrently with the FWSA silent auction of travel packages. Saturday is devoted to educational panels, electioneering and the Honors Banquet.

This is followed by a great party! Reports and elections occur on Sunday, followed by the first Board of Directors meeting of the fiscal year for FWSA. It is a busy and fun weekend for delegates and volunteers. It’s a chance to renew friendships and make new friends.
