Far West Ski Foundation Awards Grants to

Wasatch Adaptive Sports & Lone Rock School District

At its March Meeting, the Far West Ski Foundation awarded two grants to nonprofit snowsports organizations.  The Board of Trustees approved grants for the Wasatch Adaptive Sports, Snowbird, Utah, under its Rehabilitation and Renewal mission, and the Lone Rock School District, Stevensville, Montana, under its Sustaining Snowsports mission.

Wasatch Adaptive Sports
Founded in Utah’s world-renowned ski slopes in 1977, the Wasatch Adaptive Sports (WAS), has since expanded tremendously, now serving 1,100 Utahns with disabilities through 5,000 adaptive lessons, group sessions, equipment fittings, and equipment rentals across 10 activites, like skiing, snowboarding, and ski-biking, in 39 program locations.  WAS’s programs are open to anyone with a permanent physical, cognitive, or developmental disability.  The 2026-27 Adaptive Ski and Snowboard Program will operate seven days per week out of Snowbird and four days per week out of Sundance.  In addressing barriers, WAS extends scholarship assistance to all families and endeavors for at least 90% of participants to not have to choose between living expenses and transformative adaptive skiing.  WAS also maintains a fleet of more than 50 adaptive skis, including monoskis, bi-skis, ski bikes, Kart skis and other types of adaptive equipment. Lone Rock School District

The Lone Rock School District’s annual ski program has been a treasured tradition for over 20 years.  Each year, students participate in four days of skiing that include lessons, lift tickets, and equipment rental – all offered at a reduced cost for all middle school students.  While volunteers work hard to keep the cost low, some families still struggle to afford the fee.  By keeping the cost reduced and seeking financial support for families in need, their program ensures equitable access so that every student can participate. Their ski program teaches resilience and perseverance in ways that cannot be replicated in a classroom.  Students become capable skiers who have learned that persistence leads to success.  The program also strengthens teacher-student relationships, which carries over into improved classroom engagement and work.  To meet the need of financial accessibility, Lone Rock School District will use grant funds to provide full or partial scholarships for students who demonstrate financial need.  (https://www.lonerockschool.org)

Congratulations to both these nonprofit organizations for the outstanding contributions they are making to sustain snowsports through their youth programs.  The Far West Ski Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, and donations of any amount are greatly appreciated to support our snowsports missions.  To make a donation, go to: https://farwestskifoundation.org.
